Orkin/PCO Services Named a Best Employer for Canadians Over Age 50

11/8/2005

CALGARY, Alberta, November 8, 2005 – Orkin/PCO Services Corporation was recently named one of 11 Best Employers for Canadians over age 50. The company was awarded this designation on September 19 following a competition sponsored by CARP, Canada’s Association for Fifty-Plus.

In bestowing the award, CARP acknowledged Orkin’s introduction of a more flexible part-time schedule with benefits that have retained employees who otherwise may have retired or left the industry, leading to increased satisfaction and productivity within the organization.

“Orkin is committed to long, mutually beneficial relationships with its employees as well as its customers,” said Jean Fader, Human Resources Manager for Orkin/PCO Services. “We’re very pleased with this recognition because it validates what many of our employees already know – that Orkin is one of Canada’s best places to work.”

Other Best Employers for 50-Plus Canadians this year are:

  1. Carrier Truck Centers Inc. – Brantford, Ontario
  2. Catholic Children’s Aid Society of Toronto, Ontario
  3. City of Calgary, Alberta
  4. Direct Energy – Toronto, Ontario
  5. Excell Services – Penticton, British Columbia
  6. Flexo Products – Niagara Falls, Ontario
  7. Home Instead – Toronto, Ontario
  8. Merck Frosst – Montreal, Quebec
  9. Seven Oaks General Hospital – Winnipeg, Manitoba
  10. Toronto Auto Auctions – Milton, Ontario

“There are many myths and misconceptions that create a negative image of the mature worker in Canada,” said Eric Vengroff, CARP’s Vice President of Marketing. “The winning companies help dispel the myths.  They understand the advantages of employing mature workers and demonstrate this understanding through the opportunities they provide for mature workers.”

Barbara Jaworski, Coordinator of CARP’s Best Employers for 50-Plus Canadians Award, added, “These are companies who have learned the secrets of how to utilize mature workers to achieve a business advantage. This translates into bottom line results for them such as increased revenue, decreased costs and more importantly, an engaged productive workforce.”
